Tom Jones is a 56-year-old male who has been followed in the urology clinic for a few weeks with symptoms of renal calculi. He was taken to the operating suite for ureteroscopy, attempted stone extraction, and stent placement. The cystoscope was inserted into the urethra, which was normal. The bladder was free of neoplasm, infection, or calculus. There was some edema of the right intramural ureter. A guidewire was introduced into the right ureteral orifice and advanced to the right renal-collecting system without difficulty. A balloon was used to dilate the ureter and a scope was introduced. The gravel was noted from the stone being fragmented from the balloon. This was washed out. The remainder of the ureter was examined and found to be free of neoplasm, perforation, or calculus. The stent was inserted. The patient was transferred to the recovery room in stable condition.
