An action potential consists of the following stages:
◦ stimulation depolarizes the cell by making the inside of the cell more positive → a threshold is reached triggering an action potential → the electrical charge moves down to the end of the axon.
◦ stimulation depolarizes the cell by making the inside of the cell more negative → a threshold is reached triggering an action potential → the electrical charge moves down to the end of the axon.
◦ stimulation depolarizes the cell by making the inside of the cell more positive → a threshold is not reached → the electrical charge stops where it is.
