Question 1

A capacitor is charged by connecting it in series with a resistor to a DC source. The greatest change in voltage across the capacitor will occur during:

the first time-constant period.

the second time-constant period.

the fourth time-constant period.

the fifth time-constant period.

Question 2

A lamp connected in series with a capacitor and an AC voltage source will light up. This is because:

the dielectric is shorted out automatically when alternating current is applied.

the peak AC voltage, being higher than the equivalent DC voltage, can temporarily break down the dielectric.

the lamp is also acting as a capacitor when connected in series with an actual capacitor.

the capacitor is being alternately charged and discharged, resulting in a continuous flow of current through the lamp.

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
