When people had high ego-depletion (were assigned the difficult task) they were more persuaded by both strong and weak arguments. Individuals who had low ego depletion (were assigned the easy task) were only persuaded by the strong arguments. This indicates that it takes effort to resist persuasive appeals or at least to process them well, thus the ego-depleted participants were more likely to heuristically process and were persuaded by any argument even when the argument was weak.
