Answer to Question 1

Answer: Three main theoretical criticisms have been used to question the evolutionary theory of attraction. First, some researchers have criticized it because it is untestable using an experimental framework. Second, others have suggested that it oversimplifies extremely complex human behavior. Third, some have suggested that differences between men and women in the preference for physical attractiveness can also be explained by cultural teachings and/or by equity theory.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Companionate love is characterized by feelings of intimacy and affection for another person, and although we care deeply for the other person, we don't experience passion or arousal in his or her presence. Passionate love is characterized by an intense longing for the other person and by physiological arousal in his or her presence; passionate love is more volatile than compassionate love.
