Social psychologists have long observed that attitudes do not always predict behaviors. When are attitudes most likely to predict spontaneous behaviors?

Answer: The extent to which attitudes predict spontaneous behaviors depends on how accessible an attitude is. When attitudes are accessible, they come readily to mind when we encounter the attitude object, and that attitude is likely to predict behavior toward that object. When attitudes are relatively less accessiblethey don't come readily to mindthey are less likely to predict behavior.
