Answer to Question 1

Give at least two reasons why is it important to be aware of the continuum of sexual orientation. 1 point each for any 2 of the following:
- Realizing that there isn't a single point at which one becomes a homosexual (sexual orientation isn't either/or) can make one more tolerant
- Realizing that there isn't a single point at which one becomes a homosexual (sexual orientation isn't either/or) can make one realize that it is difficult to legislate approved behavior
- Being aware of the continuum can make a person feel less alone
- Some other response indicating tolerance

Answer to Question 2

Describe the four ineffective coping strategies covered in the book. 4 points, 1 for each of the following:
- Learned helplessness: giving up; avoiding a problem may give temporary relief, but often makes matters worse later
- Being aggressive: Some people get angry when something doesn't go their way; this doesn't work because anger fuels more anger and makes people less likely to help you
- Blaming yourself: Even if something is your fault, it is more effective to try and do something about the situation
- Overindulging yourself: alcohol, drugs, food, tobacco, gambling, etc. These may seem to help temporarily, but only lead to additional problems in the future

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.
