Answer to Question 1

Answers will vary. Drugs or alcohol might form part of a negative identity as a way of
disobeying parents. They might be part of the aimless casting around characteristic
of diffusion or the experimentation of the moratorium phase. This period may pass
without incident.

Answer to Question 2

Identity achievement refers to the point at which an individual understands who he or
she is as a unique individual. This status is characterized by questioning and
commitment. Identity diffusion refers to a state in which an individual is apathetic
about who they are. This status is characterized by not questioning and no
commitment. Identity moratorium refers to a state in which an individual is taking a
break from identity formation to explore alternatives. This status is characterized by
questioning and no commitment. Identity foreclosure refers to a premature identity
formation in which an adolescent adopts parents' or society's roles and values
without questioning them. This status is characterized by not questioning and
commitment.

Although the Roman numeral for the number 4 has always been taught to have been "IV," according to historians, the ancient Romans probably used "IIII" most of the time. This is partially backed up by the fact that early grandfather clocks displayed IIII for the number 4 instead of IV.
