Answer to Question 1

Analytic thought is formal, logical, rational, hypothetical, and deductive. Examples
will vary, but it should involve rational analysis of many factors, such as the scalebalancing
problem. Intuitive thought starts with a prior belief or assumption and
involves applying memories or feelings. Examples will vary. Adolescents use intuitive
thinking to such a great extent because it is fast and powerful. Additionally,
increased hormonal production brings emotion to the forefront of adolescents'
thought processes. Intuitive thought is easier than analytic thought.

Answer to Question 2

The teenager should be able to make systematic calculations based on multiplying
the weight times the distance from center. Younger children will use trial and error.
