Answer to Question 1

With immersion, the child's instruction occurs entirely in the second language. With
English as a second language (ESL), children speak only English, and students
work together toward the goal of learning English. With bilingual education, students
are instructed in their native language and English.

Answer to Question 2

Students should mention learning the new language early in life, learning with peers,
having adults provide encouragement, encouraging immigrants to learn the new
language, and remembering that each child and family is different.
