Answer to Question 1

The rates of birth complications, such as lack of oxygen, low birthweight, and breech
births, vary from situation to situation. The vast majority of babies born at home do
fine. The obvious disadvantage to home delivery is the lack of immediate
emergency medical care, should it be necessary. A midwife, a doula, or another
helper is usually present, along with family members to assist in the delivery.

Answer to Question 2

The answers will vary but some may include genetic vulnerability, drug usage, low
pregnancy weight, low body fat, low total weight gain, inadequate vitamins, and poor
nutrition.
