Answer to Question 1

Although there may appear to be nothing typical about adolescent relationships, the idea that all parents and adolescents conflict, and that parents and peers have opposing views on what teens should become, is exaggerated. Parents continue to be important in teenagers' lives. Although peers take on increasing importance, the areas in which their influence is increasing may not conflict with parental areas. For example, peers may pressure adolescents to dress a certain way, whereas teens may be more likely to defer to parental guidance on issues of beliefs or ideals. Contrary to media portrayals, the typical adolescent/parent relationship is not one of continuous rebellion.

There can actually be a 25-hour time difference between certain locations in the world. The International Date Line passes between the islands of Samoa and American Samoa. It is not a straight line, but "zig-zags" around various island chains. Therefore, Samoa and nearby islands have one date, while American Samoa and nearby islands are one day behind. Daylight saving time is used in some islands, but not in others—further shifting the hours out of sync with natural time.
