Answer to Question 2

Neonatal vision tends to be nearsighted and limited in refinements. There is unclear evidence about whether neonates can detect colors, although their ability does develop within the first two months. Neonates have limited or no visual accommodation (focusing) ability and can see best with a 7-9 inch range. Neonates also lack the ability to control their eye muscles, so they are unable to look at very close objects. They are also able to track objects. They prefer to view objects that are moving.

Neonatal hearing is more advanced than neonatal vision, with the level of hearing about even with those of adults. Neonates are able to detect differences in pitch and amplitude, although they prefer high-pitched sounds. Neonates recognize the sound of their mother's voice and are responsive to human voices as well as able to detect the difference in speech sounds.

Every flu season is different, and even healthy people can get extremely sick from the flu, as well as spread it to others. The flu season can begin as early as October and last as late as May. Every person over six months of age should get an annual flu vaccine. The vaccine cannot cause you to get influenza, but in some seasons, may not be completely able to prevent you from acquiring influenza due to changes in causative viruses. The viruses in the flu shot are killed—there is no way they can give you the flu. Minor side effects include soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given. It is possible to develop a slight fever, and body aches, but these are simply signs that the body is responding to the vaccine and making itself ready to fight off the influenza virus should you come in contact with it.

There are major differences in the metabolism of morphine and the illegal drug heroin. Morphine mostly produces its CNS effects through m-receptors, and at k- and d-receptors. Heroin has a slight affinity for opiate receptors. Most of its actions are due to metabolism to active metabolites (6-acetylmorphine, morphine, and morphine-6-glucuronide).

Hypertension is a silent killer because it is deadly and has no significant early symptoms. The danger from hypertension is the extra load on the heart, which can lead to hypertensive heart disease and kidney damage. This occurs without any major symptoms until the high blood pressure becomes extreme. Regular blood pressure checks are an important method of catching hypertension before it can kill you.
