The student should assert that stepfamilies lack cultural scripts to help guide them. Cultural scripts are defined as a set of social norms for guiding people in their relationships with one another. In stepfamilies the rules are unclear, ambiguous, and conflicting. These families have to create new rules in order to be successful. Discussion should include examples.
