Are there gender differences in motor development during middle childhood? If so, what might account for these gender differences?

Reasons to perform a C-section include small pelvis in the mother, maternal weakness or fatigue, fetal distress, and:
 
  a. a baby who is unusually small.
  b. a baby who is being born headfirst.
  c. a baby who is too large.
  d. maternal anxiety during the delivery process.

Answer to Question 1

Although there are gender differences, it is difficult to explain these differences based upon biology. It seems most likely that these differences are due to differential socialization (family, peer, and media pressures) more than genetics. The only consistent difference apparent during preschool and continuing into middle childhood is a difference in the ability to throw a ball. Boys consistently outperform girls on this task. Girls tend to outperform boys on tasks requiring fine motor skills and overall flexibility.
