Information is encoded or inputted into the computer and then manipulated in working memory (RAM). Information may be stored in a storage device (short- or long-term memory) and retrieved when needed. Problem solving strategies are considered to be mental programs or software, while the brain is the hardware.. Limitations in thinking may be a result of limited memory capacity, retrieval problems, and ability to run multiple programs.
