Universal parenting techniques appear to be emphasis on nurturance with infants and toddlers accompanied by a shift towards control and behavior correction until school age when parents begin to focus on training social and cultural values. Cultures vary in the degree to which children must contribute to the familys subsistence, do chores, and obey their parents. In some cultures, parents demand a very high degree of compliance, whereas in others, the emphasis in parentchild interactions is sociability.
