Describe how social referencing could be used to help explain how a child might acquire a fear through modeling.

Nobel, who has terminal cancer, has been in a depressed state for several weeks. The most effective way to help him move out of this stage would be to
 
  a. convince him to strike a bargain for his health.

Answer to Question 1

Social referencing occurs when a child looks at the face of an adult (often a parent) when in a new or ambiguous situation. If mom or dads show a reaction of fear in this situation, a child might mimic (model) this response and begin to show a fear response to this situation.
