Answer to Question 1

b

Answer to Question 2

Competence is the upper limit of a person's ability to function in the five domains: physical health, sensory perceptual skills, motor skills, cognitive skills, and ego strength. Environmental press refers to the physical, interpersonal, or social demands that environments put on people. The competence-environmental press approach involves the interaction of the two areas of competence and environmental press on individuals. Both competence and environmental press change as people move through the life span. The zone of maximum comfort occurs when the environmental press level is slightly lower than average for a particular level of competence and facilitates a high quality of life.
