Developmental psychologist infer that infants have a sense of self when they see themselves in a mirror with a red mark on their nose and reach up and touch their own nose. Theory of mind is the connections between thoughts, beliefs, intentions, and behavior that create an intuitive understanding of the link between mind and behavior. As children understand that people have different desires, states of knowledge, and intentions, they achieve greater understanding of their own sense of self.
