The student should assert that reasons for covenant marriages include lower license cost and reduced divorce (although this reduction has not been proven). A covenant marriage is an antidivorce contract because it demands that couples entering into this kind of marriage will get premarital counseling, seek out counseling in the marriage if problems occur, and promise not to divorce until after a minimum of a two-year separation. Supporters are often conservative Christians.
