Centration involves a narrow focus of thought. For example, a child may be upset that her brother got two sandwiches and she only got one when in fact they are the same with only one of them cut in half. The idea of appearance as reality is based on the idea that what you see is what you get. For example, if you show a child a glass of water and put a drop of red food coloring in it, he will easily believe that the glass now contained cherry juice.
