Answer to Question 1

The student should assert that W.I. Thomas formed the concept of definition of the situation based on the symbolic interactionist perspective. People in their small group interactions act and react based on their interpretation of symbols (language, gestures) used. A definition of the situation is based on the following: defining the situation, internalization and reflections on self image and predictability of future interactions and behaviors.
