Researchers have sought to determine how sexual scripts influence marital relationship
and sexual satisfaction. Sociologist Susan Sprecher found that among women, increased relationship satisfaction leads to increased sexual satisfaction, and among men, increased sexual satisfaction leads to increased relationship satisfaction. Sprecher attributed her findings to the fact that women's sex scripts socialize them to enjoy sex only in committed, fulfilling relationships, while men's sex scripts socialize them to be motivated by sex.
In a rare study that sought to determine sexual and relationship satisfaction of married couples in mainland China, researchers found that Chinese men and women are moderately satisfied with their marital sexual relationships.
