Answer to Question 1

Answer: In this process, the artist must give up control and must be resigned to accidental effects that result from the high heat. Voulkos exploits these accidental effects.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: It is relatively soft and it occurs in an almost pure state. Its brilliance has been linked to royalty since antiquity.
