Answer: The ideal answer should include:
1. Many of the Impressionists and Post-Impressionistsespecially Manet, Degas, and van Goghwere influenced by the prints' use of flat areas of color and subjects drawn from everyday life, including prostitutes.
2. Artists, including van Gogh and Degas, were influenced by the prints' composition and novel use of pictorial space.
3. Mary Cassatt was influenced by Japanese prints that featured the intimate world of women and children, which inspired her own prints of women caring for children.

Answer: The artist draws the image by pulling a metal-pointed needle directly on the plate to create a burr.
