Answer to Question 1

Figurine of a Voluptuous Lady is a modeled sculpture of a graceful female figure from the Maya civilization in Mesoamerica. The abstract presentation of the figure emphasizes gently rounded forms from the masses of the head and body to the heavy ornaments and elaborate hairdo. Like much ancient art, this sculpture survived as part of a group of objects buried in a tomb.

Answer to Question 2

Apoxyomenos (Scraper) is a Roman copy of a young Greek athlete, depicting the Greeks' idealized body type given to images of gods and mythological heroes and governed by harmonious proportions. The sculpture displays the distinctive contrapposto stance portraying a dynamic interplay between a body at rest and in motion. Michelangelo's Renaissance sculpture Dying Slave references the expressive, idealized body and stance of Greek and Roman sculpture. His sculpture was created for the tomb of Pope Julius II, although the representation of the figure is unknown but has come to be understood as an expression of an idea or emotion through the presentation of the body.
