Answer to Question 1

Students are to list four of the following methods:
a. Choose the right environment. Selecting a designated place to provide maximum ability to concentrate is important. A room with a low noise level and plenty of space to spread out your notes is usually effective.
b. Schedule a reasonable block of time. Plan a block of time in which you can work with no interruptions. If a project is quite lengthy, you may need to set up additional time blocks, with designated breaks to give yourself a fresh perspective.
c. State your purpose in writing. Write the primary objective at the top of a blank page. It will constantly remind you why you are writing this document.
d. Engage in free writing. Write continuously for 10 or 15 minutes without stopping. If you can't think of anything that relates to the topic at hand, just write any thoughts you have. This will help you to be creative and eventually to come up with ideas for your message.
e. Avoid the perfectionism syndrome. Remind yourself that the first draft is not the final copy. Avoid the temptation to try to achieve a perfect document the first time.
f. Think out loud. Verbalize your thoughts as you write them down. Listening to yourself is a good way to focus on your ideas and refine them.
g. Write the easiest parts first. Writing down something will give you a sense of accomplishment, and you may think of other ideas while you are writing the easiest section of the document.

Answer to Question 2

1. Procrastination: Putting off doing what you dislike.
2. Impatience: Tiring of the naturally slow pace of writing.
3. Perfectionism: Believing the draft should be perfect immediately.
