Answer to Question 1

Children in two-parent families tend to have greater family incomes, experience fewer transitions in their lives, and have more involvement with their fathers.

Answer to Question 2

There are five major reasons for the gender differences in widowhood. First, women tend to live longer than men, which increases their likelihood of being widowed. Second, a wife typically is three or four years younger than her husband, which also increases the likelihood that she will survive him. Third, at age 65 and older, there are 77 males for every 100 females. This means that the marriage market for older males is better than for their female counterparts.
Fourth, among women and men age 50 and older, 63 percent of men, compared with only 22 percent of women, want to date someone who's much younger. And the older a man is, the more likely that he wants to date a much younger woman.
