Answer to Question 1

Speakers must know the differences between informative and persuasive presentations. Informative presentations promote understanding of an idea, concept, problem, event, procedure, person, thing, place, or body of related facts. Persuasive presentations influence listener behaviors or opinions so that they change beliefs or take a specific action. Persuasive speeches do both inform and persuade, but the two types of presentations require different approaches. The two types of informative presentations are intended to increase understanding.

Answer to Question 2

Chronological resumes highlight work, listing it in reverse chronological order. This resume is preferred by interviewers. It includes not only responsibilities but also achievements. Functional resumes emphasize skills and accomplishments rather than work experience and dates. This resume normally is for people with a variety of experience and skills. This resume also is recommended if changing careers, reentering the job force after unemployment, or nearing retirement. Employers may be suspicious that this type of resume hides a problem. Combination or hybrid resumes have both chronological and functional aspects. This resume includes an introduction (or summary), functional information on achievement and skills, chronological work history, and education. Experienced professionals prefer the combination resume, which receives generally positive recruiter reactions.
