Answer to Question 1

A
The word fix does not require the final consonant when adding ing to it. Do not double the
final consonant of words ending in w or x

Answer to Question 2

C
In forming the past tense of the word plan you double the final n (planned) because it
contains a short a sound. If the vowel sound is long, do not double; if the vowel sound is
short, double the final consonant.
