Answer to Question 1

Answer: In addition to organizing your documents throughout your research process, you also need to organize what you extract from the documents and the rest of your notes. Inexperienced researchers often make the mistake of organizing their research by the source of information. Although you might first record information in that way, you will find it more useful to synthesize, or combine, information from various sources as you work through the research process. Information should not be organized by source instead the information can be integrated into the work plan by research activity. By organizing the information by question, you will be able to make good comparisons more easily.
As you continue your research, you can use the same work plan to organize your conclusions and recommendations. Simply add extra columns to the right.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: Secondary research can be quicker and easier, and less expensive. While it may take some time to narrow down and refine your search results, if the material is out there it is ultimately just a matter of finding it. Then you will need to assess it with the 3 As  authorship, accuracy, and age  to see if it is usable for your report, and if so, in what capacity. Information about a technology issue must be very current to be used to guide a purchasing decision, for example, as it must take into account the latest advances in the field. Information that is a bit less current might still be useful to you for understanding the different components of a system and their limitations, etc. Primary research is a bigger undertaking. It requires more time and effort to conduct, and evaluate the raw data that results. But advantages are that you are assured of the accuracy, authorship, and age if you are doing it yourself. You can also focus the research to exactly your particular situation, instead of using something that is less specific to your own needs. In some cases you won't have the time or resources to conduct primary research, but in some case you will have no choice but to do it.
