Answer to Question 1

Answer: TRUE
Explanation: Before audience members will take the time to read or listen to your messages, they have to be interested in what you're saying. They need to know the message is relevant to their needseven if they don't necessarily want to read or see your message. The more you know about your audience members, their needs, and their expectations, the more effectively you'll be able to communicate with them.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: When an audience is skeptical or resistant to an idea, care must be taken with the communication. The writer needs to carefully consider the audience, level of knowledge and likely reaction. The writer should clearly identify the specific purpose for writing, and consider what might make the audience skeptical or resistant. The writing should work to address those issues. Conclusions should be introduced gradually, and each should be supported with proof. The distribution method must also be carefully considereda written document might provide the audience with more of an opportunity to study the information than a verbal communication. A skeptical writing will look for reasons to dismiss the idea, so careful attention to detail such as numbers, spelling and grammar is critical. Before sending the message, the writer needs to determine what will change as a result of the communication, if the purpose is realistic, if the time is right and who the audience is composed of.
