The former owner of a used car told the new buyer that the car could travel for 36.4 miles on one gallon of gasoline. The buyer tested the car by driving it for 170 miles on 4.5 gallons of gasoline. Was this better or worse than the claim, and by how many miles per gallon? (Round to the nearest tenth.)

The merchant purchased toasters over a three-month period as follows: 40 purchased at 8.00 on April 1, 60 purchased at 7.70 on May 1, and 20 purchased at 7.80 on June 1 . Compute the value of the ending inventory of toasters at average cost.

170 miles  4.5 gallons = 37.8 miles per gallon;
37.8 - 36.4 = 1.4 miles per gallon better
