A production engineer wanted to know how long it should take to make metal rods with a lathe. Four rods were made, and the time was recorded. The results were 28.5 seconds, 29.2 seconds, 31.8 seconds, and 29.7 seconds. Compute the total time to make all four rods.

Question 2

Dennis Rogers and Betty Chin opened a new art gallery. To help them get started, they borrowed 18,500 for one and one-half years at 8 ordinary simple interest (360-day year). Compute the total amount that they will repay.

Answer to Question 1

28.5 + 29.2 + 31.8 + 29.7 = 119.2 seconds

Answer to Question 2

I = PRT = 18,500  0.08  1.5 = 2,220; 18,500 + 2,220 = 20,720
