A lawn mower manufacturer claims that one of its new gas-powered lawn mowers will run for 2 hours and 40 minutes on 1 quart of gasoline. If the claim is true, how long should this lawn mower run on 3 1/2 quarts of gasoline? 40 minutes is 2/3 of an hour.

Before the first paycheck, the owner loaned Devon 1,00 . for 30 days at 5 ordinary simple interest. Compute the total amount that Devon will need to repay the owner when he gets paid after 30 days. 2 2/3  3 1/2 = 8/3  7/2 = 28/3 = 9 1/3 hours or 9 hours and 20 minutes

Answer to Question 2

1,00 .  0.05  30/360 = 4.17; 1,00 . + 4.17 = 1,004.17
