Briefly describe sampling and nonsampling errors.
 
  What will be an ideal response?

Question 2

A university vice president for academic affairs randomly selects 15 tenured faculty from the College of Education and 15 tenured faculty from the College of Business.
 
  Each faculty member is then asked to rate his or her job satisfaction on a scale of 1 (very dissatisfied) to 5 (very satisfied). Is this an example of independent samples or dependent samples? Explain.

Answer to Question 1

A sampling error is a source of error which results from the fact that information is available on only a subset of all the population members.
Nonsampling errors are errors unconnected with the kind of sampling procedures used, in other words, such errors could happen whether you use the total population or just a sample of it. Examples of nonsampling errors are: the population sampled is not the relevant one; survey subjects may give inaccurate or dishonest answers; or, there may be no response to survey questions.

Answer to Question 2

This is an example of independent samples because we have two different samples of tenured faculty from two different colleges.
