Answer to Question 1

Stolfi and Casalino, as union officials, were obligated to be the exclusive representatives of Wed-tech employees. In fact, they were subtly selling out union interest for continuing fees. They perceived themselves as good guys trying to solve Wedtech's problems with the carpenters and not seeking or receiving any money for their role. They were, in fact, so corrupt that the resolution to the Wedtech carpenters' union dispute that they proposed and saw implemented was not a legal compromise agreement outlining under what circumstances nonunion labor would be allowed. Rather it was a 100,000 payoff. This was extortion under the Hobbs Act.
