The entities covered under the HIPPA are health care plans, health care clearing houses, and health care providers.

HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It was enacted in the year 1998 which took effect about five years later and mandates among other things- stringent policies and procedures aimed at preventing the unauthorized use or disclosure of health and medical information.
