The Endangered Species Act with the Babbitt v. Sweet Home case has been greatly expanded to provide protection not just for the destruction of the animals, but for the interference or destruction of their habitats, whether those habitats are located on private or public lands. In some cases, the ruling will mean that landowners will not be permitted to develop their properties.
