Answer to Question 1

Hiring H-1B workers may be considered unethical because:

  • Heavy reliance on the use of H-1B workers can lessen the incentive for U.S. companies to educate and develop their own workforces.

  • Some companies use H-1B visas as a way to lower salaries.

  • Some employers may lie on their H-1B applications to take advantage of the program.

Some of the advantages of hiring H-1B workers include:

  • H-1B workers are used to obtain essential technical skills and knowledge that is not readily found in the U.S., and tend to be used when there is a critical business need for these skills.

  • H-1B professionals provide special expertise in overseas markets or on projects that enable U.S. businesses to compete globally.

  • H-1B admissions appear to directly improve levels of innovation and entrepreneurship, which in the long term should create new jobs and raise demand for technology workers in other areas.

Due to the lack of English speaking skills, H-1B workers often isolate themselves and stop trying to adapt, which can hurt a project teams morale and lead to division.
