Answer to Question 1

It depends on the type of site and the nature of the friendship. Many instructors and students successfully use social networking Web sites, such as Facebook, to keep in touch after graduation, to keep informed about their employment status, and to alert graduates when jobs become available in their field. Other instructors use social networking sites to help students keep track of their coursework, assignments, due dates, etc.

Answer to Question 2

It might be surprising to some students to learn how much time they are actually spending on social networking Web sites, time that could be used in more productive ways.
