Answer to Question 1

1 . Localized myositis (small areas of inflammation in skeletal muscle) can be encountered in many systemic diseases but has no major clinical significance. Inflammation of muscle is secondary to necrosis and disruption of muscle cells and is associated with swelling and tenderness of the affected muscle. The inflammation gradually subsides as the muscle injury heals. 2 . Generalized myositis (generalized inflammation of skeletal muscle; also called polymyositis) is an uncommon but serious systemic disease of unknown etiology, characterized by widespread degeneration and inflammation of skeletal muscle.
