Breast cancer tends to run in families, and women whose mother or sister has had a breast carcinoma are at a higher risk. Also, women who have never borne children or who had their first child after age 30 are at increased risk, as are woman who have had early onset of menses or late menopause.

Increased formation of lactic acid from the breakdown of glucose in the presence of decreased oxygen supply, e.g., shock, severe heart failure
