Answer to Question 1

If any of the patient identification information does not match, you should NOT draw her blood. You should go to the nurse to identify the patient and determine what information is incorrect. When a new armband is placed on the patient, you can then draw the blood.

Answer to Question 2

Sympathize with the patient that the venipuncture can hurt slightly. Don't tell the patient that it will not hurt. Tell the patient that you will do the best you can to not hurt him or her very much. Remind the patient that the physician needs this sample to help make the patient better.
