Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
The bleeding time result will be normal in patients with a factor VIII deficiency. It ideally will be prolonged in all the other listed settings. The bleeding time test is being used less often because it has poor predictive value and leaves scarring.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: C
The PTT reference interval must be determined with each new lot of reagent and at least once per year.
