High-performance liquid chromatography can separate and quantify Hb A2 and Hb F, which is important to do when working up patients with possible thalassemic syndromes. None of the other methods quantify them.

ANS: B
Hb Lepore is a d-b fusion globin chain with decreased synthesis of the chain. Heterozygotes have a clinical course similar to that of b-thalassemia minor.
