Answer to Question 1

ANS: D
The stem cell from which all blood cells are derived is the HSC. The other stem cells mentioned are all committed to one or more blood cell lineage: BFU-E to erythroid; CFU-GM to granulocytes and monocytes; and CFU-GEMM to granulocytes, erythroid, monocytes, and megakaryocytes (from which platelets are derived).

Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
In infection, whether it is bacterial or viral, the lymphoid system is activated, which can result in enlargement of lymph nodes. In metastatic malignancy, invading (metastasizing) malignant cells can also enlarge the lymph nodes. Liver cirrhosis is independent of lymph nodes.
