Answer to Question 1

Answer:
The tests are:
APTT (screen) the majority of LAs are detected beginning with a prolonged APTT.
DRVVT  dilute Russell viper venom time. Utilizes snake venom to initiate factor X cleavage independently from standard in vitro measurements. Used to rule out heparin involvement that results in a prolonged APTT.
Mixing study  increasing dilutions of patient plasma with normal pooled plasma (NPP) are mixed together, and an APTT is measured. If an inhibitor is present in the patient's plasma, it will inhibit not only the phospholipid in the patient plasma but also the phospholipid in the NPP and thereby cause a minimal correction with increasing dilutions.
Modified mixing study with the addition of phospholipid  the addition of phospholipid will neutralize the LA and thus cause a shortening of the time. This will confirm an LA.
