Answer to Question 1

Answer: Classic X-linked SCID accounts for 45 of all cases. It is characterized by an absence of T lymphocytes and a hypoplastic thymus, but autosomal SCID is not.
Autosomal SCID is caused by an ADA (adenosine deaminase) deficiency. It inhibits normal B and T cell development, but classic X-linked SCID is not.

Answer to Question 2

Answer: The patient has an absolute lymphocytosis. It can be associated with IM, CMV, whooping cough, toxoplasmosis, and reactive lymphocytosis.
